Some Hair Loss Medications Such As Propecia May Cause The Growth Of Man Boobs
If you are taking medications for hair loss such as Propecia you may be in danger of developing man boobs!
Propecia (finasteride) blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT by way of 5AR2. Great for hair, but trouble for gynecomastia problems. The lack of DHT raises testosterone levels, which in turn raises estrogen levels. This out of ballance effect of low DHT and high estrogen can lead to increased body fat and encourages moobs to grow.
The first sign of trouble is often a little extra chest fat. Things could stay at this level, or it could progress futher. In worse cases you may form the hard lumps under the nipple that are the worst case scenario for these haed and often painful lumps are called gynecomastia and can be much harder to get rid of than the excess fat.
To further complicate matters, many hair loss sufferers add topical Spirnolactone to their treatment. Although topical, some medication is systemically absorbed. For the susceptible, Propecia with a little systemic absorption of Spirnolactone is a sure cause for man boob growth!
So is there any way to use Propecia and stay safe from the possibility of developing man boobs? Yes. The use of a small amount of Andractim DHT gel on the chest area while you're on Propecia or Proscar may stave off breast growth without having an adverse effect on your hair. Use a very small amount so that systemic absorbtion of DHT is minimal and your hair is not effected. Also you should cycle the use of the Andractim.
So be very careful when using these types of hairloss drugs so you don’t get more than you bargained for! Hair is important for self-esteem, but developing male breasts can be crushing to your ego.
